This gala concert is presented by the South African Concert and Church Organist society in the St. George's Anglican Church in Sherborne Road, Parktown, Johannesburg. The concert will be repeated at 18:00 in the same venue.

The Wits Trio will perform three extraordinary works by Mozart, Babajanian and Brahms at the Odeion concert hall of the University of the Free State. This forms part of the concert series presented by the music department of the UFS.

Wits Trio has been in existence since 2012 and the members are Zanta Hofmeyr (violin), Susan Mouton (cello) and Malcolm Nay (piano). They are based in Johannesburg and became well-known for their interpretations of Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Beethoven trios at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival and their performances throughout South Africa. They are the first ensemble to perform the Babajanian trio in South Africa.

ENCHANTED MELODIES - Masterpieces of French Impressionism by Ravel and Debussy

Zanta Hofmeyr will perform the Brahms violin concerto with the Rand Symphony Orchestra. The conductor for this concert is Carel Henn. Zanta Hofmeyr will lead a chamber ensemble who will perform Arnold Schönberg's arrangement of 'Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen' and 'Das Lied von der Erde'. The Wits Trio are delighted to play at this auspicious occasion. This will also be the inauguration of the new seven-foot Kawai piano at the new E John Butler Centre for the Arts. 

Violinist Zanta Hofmeyr and cellist Susan Mouton will join forces for this exciting concert with the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gerben Grooten to perform the majestic concerto for violin and cello by Johannes Brahms. The concert will take place at the ZK Matthews concert hall at UNISA in Pretoria.

Zanta Hofmeyr and pianist Charl du Plessis will perform the Kreutzer Sonata by Ludwig von Beethoven in the first half of the concert. After intermission they will enter a completely different world performing Tangos from Argentina, some jazz classics and compositions by Charl du Plessis. Beethoven Tango appeals to an inquisitive musical palate and combines the refined qualities of Hofmeyr’s classical technique with the improvisatory magic of contemporary piano. As the name suggests, Beethoven Tango is a unique musical journey joining the fire of tango rhythms and the sounds of world music, jazz and Beethoven, with hits like An Englishman in New York, Fragile, Libertango, Fields of Gold and Errol Garner’s Misty amongst others. Du Plessis was the first pianist to perform on Table Mountain and has released eight albums.

The Wits Trio will perform the Triple Concerto by Beethoven at a special celebration concert of the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company. It takes place at the Great Hall at the University of the Witwatersrand.

This concert forms part of the Endler Concert Series 2017. Zanta Hofmeyr and Elna van der Merwe presents this special recital featuring works for violin and piano by three French Composers: Debussy, Poulenc and Saint-Saëns. The concert also serves as a launch for the CD recording of this programme which was recorded in the Endler hall - renowned for its excellent acoustics, by the equally well-known sound engineer, Gerhard Roux in who's capable hands many artists put their trust for the recording process. 

The works by these French composers are extremely well-suited for the two instruments and they capture a whole array of styles and timbres for which they became loved and admired for almost 200 years by now. Saint Saens was born in 1835 and Poulenc died in 1963 - thus all three of them were alive between 1899 and 1918 (when Debussy died). Their compositional styles were very different and they represent distinct characteristics of the romantic -, impressionist - and post-impressionist periods. Audiences across South Africa have expressed surprise and delight during the past year of Zanta and Elna's performances of these works. Zanta Hofmeyr and pianist Ilia Radoslavov will present three Beethoven Sonatas as part of their Beethoven project. They will perform Sonatas No. 5 (Spring), 4 and 9 (Kreutzer).
