- Beeld, 19/11/2007
(Translation: '... With boisterous vitality both of them made the greatness of the Allegro movements come true. In the end it was the sensitive and melancolic approach to the playful Allegretto movement that brought us closer to the heart of the work. Hofmeyr and Nay remain a formidable duo who keep proving that they have an advantage over ad hoc duo partnerships.' )
Bruch Scottish Fantasy :
' ...Zanta Hofmeyr, always a much loved visitor, once again proved her reputation as one of our greatest artists. Thoroughly musical phrasing, masterfully balanced dynamics and absolutely perfect timing secured not only a smooth connection into the Adagio cantabile, but made listening to her playing of ' Thro the Wood Laddie' and 'I'm doun' a truly unique and moving experience'
'The superb lyricism of the slower movements had its counterpart in technical fireworks...'
' ...she faultlessly mastered the excruciatingly difficult and mercilessly continuing runs ..- an achievement that met with prolonged applause and a well-earned standing ovation. ' - Eastern Province Herald 3/2004.
(Translation: 'In a performance of Bruch's Scottish Fantasy op. 46, the well-known violinist, Zanta Hofmeyr exhibited musicality of a high standard with beautiful colours from her instrument. What a pleasure it was to see and hear this musician's total involvement in the melancholy Adagio cantabile. Facial expressions and physical composure blended with virtuoso sounds from her instrument. The song-elements were performed with good phrasing. Throughout the violin register - the high notes being the most tender - Hofmeyr nonetheless rose above the orchestra with a strong sound.'
BEETHOVEN ROMANCES
' Zanta Hofmeyr performed Beethoven's two Romances in G major and F major respectively - with intense musicality. ...the unassertively elegant phrasing and a characteristic refusal to let interpretative quirks or violinistic display stand in the way of the music. ' - Pretoria News, 9/9/2004 (Concert by Chamber Orchestra of South Africa)
- Beeld 7/9/2006
(Translation: Hofmeyr, Nay: Two are one
...undoubtedly one of our foremost violin and piano duos: the way they are attuned to one another is of such a high level of refinement that it seems that even if they were sightreading together there would be a unanimous interpretation.
The discipline in this instance amounts to an intense listening to one another and themselves as well as a sensitive framework and planning of nuances.' - Recital at UNISA with works of Shostakovitch, Lutoslawski, Grieg and Mozart.) Beeld, 7/9/2006
BEETHOVEN VIOLIN CONCERTO
' The serene quality of Zanta Hofmeyr's playing in Beethoven's Violin Concerto was the main recommendation in this performance. In the slow movement Hofmeyr was in wonderfully-introvert mode. She produced those short semi-quaver decorations with such moving love....this performance had an integrity of interpretation.' - Pretoria News 27/3/2003
BRAHMS SONATAS
'In this all - Brahms recital Zanta Hofmeyr(violin) and Albie van Schalkwyk(piano) offered superbly classical playing: poised and assured that brought out the essential poetry in the music.' ... 'The playing of Sonata no. 3 was satisfying with its blend of virile attack and warm lyricism which was musically alive and never sentimentalised...' 'There was, above all, a warm spontaneity about the readings that were exhilirating. A sheer love of music-making suffused the whole recital that culminated in the playing of the composer's Sonatensatz.' - Pretoria News, 13/11/2000
